We, the staff and pupils of Ballylanders NS, extend a warm welcome to all who visit our newly launched website. It provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our children and share their learning experiences with a wider audience.
Ballylanders N.S. is a primary school located on the main street in Ballylanders, Co. Limerick. We are a co-ed school catering for over 130 pupils from junior infants to 6th class.
There are 8 teachers (5 class teachers and 3 special education teachers) and 2 SNAs in our school. Mrs Sheila Flynn is the school’s principal and Ms. Sylvia Clancy is the Deputy Principal.
All the pupils in our school are given every opportunity to partake in a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities. We have a strong sporting tradition, especially in Gaelic football (both boys and girls), hurling, camogie, soccer (both boys and girls), dancing and swimming.
Music is a very important aspect of school life. We are very proud of our school orchestra which comprises of violins, violas and cellos. The orchestra performs during the year at Church ceremonies and at concerts featuring visiting choirs/orchestras. All pupils from 2nd class up are given the opportunity to learn the violin.
The annual carol service and Christmas pageant (which is performed in the Church in Ballylanders) are major highlights in the school calendar. We also produce a school concert every second year.
Our pupils are encouraged to play draughts and chess. We run an after-school chess and draughts club during the year. We participate in competitions and play at all levels- U -10, Novice and Girls only teams. We have enjoyed success at both county and All Ireland level.
The school has a traditionally a Catholic ethos but does not differentiate between pupils based on their religious beliefs or backgrounds and we welcome children of all faiths. Ballylanders N.S. welcomes the co-operation and involvement of parents and guardians in the education of their children. Together we can continue to keep our school a wonderful place where each child has a positive and successful learning experience.
