Board of Management

What does the Board of Management do?

Under Section 15(1) of the 1998 Education Act it is the duty of the Board of Management to manage the school on behalf of the patron, Arch Bishop Kieran O Reilly for the benefit of children and their parents and to provide an appropriate education for each student. The principal is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school and is accountable to the Board of Management.

The B.O.M. holds a four year term of office. The B.O.M. comprises of the Chairperson, Principal, two parent nominees (a father and a mother), two patron nominees (male and female) one teacher and two community nominees( male and female) elected by the Board of Management. The Board of Management meets regularly each year.

 

Functions of the Board of Management

Boards of Management are responsible for the direct government of schools.

The duties of the Board of Management include the following:

  • The appointment of teachers and ancillary staff;
  • Approving school closures;
  • Approving teacher absences for a variety of reasons;
  • The appointment of teachers to deputy/principal and other posts of responsibility;
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation; and
  • Ensuring that schools are adequately insured and maintained.
